Medical intervention is not always necessary so don’t feel this is your only option. 5. Form a plan of actions

Take a sheet of paper. Look at it. It is absolutely white, is not it? Imagine that this sheet of paper personifies your food habits. You will write down on it everything you think to be necessary. And will erase things that disturbed you before. No unnecessary things.

Divide it at least in 3 columns (if you are brave enough, you can divide it in 5-6, if you are not frightened at it – for some reason such quantity of meals seems to be tremendously big for those who want to train off). Write down approximate time (or time interval) of meals in these columns. Thinking over all possible situations (restaurant temptation with your loved one, lunch at your mother’s place, Friday kickbacks with your friends), compose variants of what and in which quantity you can allow eating to yourself.

6. Count

Check how many calories food you eat contains. In the end of each day look in your diary and sum up figures. If you manage to keep within necessary sum, compliment yourself and go to paragraph 7. If no, think about a reason of failure and try to refrain from repetition of this situation in future. For example, if a hungry day in your office preceded too abundant supper at home, which you cannot forgive yourself, take something on work with you tomorrow. You really can control your nutrition!

7. Play

Parting with bad habits is a difficult matter. So present gifts for yourself! For each day you lived the right way, each reached goal, each correct thought, definitely! Invent gifts beforehand, and do not give up until you get what you want.

8. Move

It also aids creative thinking, and may help with symptoms of depression. The good news is that the length of the vacation doesn’t matter one bit in terms of how happy it will make you. The best part is the anticipation.

VICE #3: Enjoying intimate pleasures.

A vice in some eyes to be sure… sex is, after all, the most pleasurable form of activity there is. It releases feel-good endorphins and oxytocin, the hormone that helps promote attachment, which very much benefits mental health. One study found that those who were sexually active one or two times a week had raised levels of the antibody immunoglobulin A that is thought to protect from colds and infections. VICE #4: A daily serving of chocolate.

A worthy, well loved vice. A square or two of the dark kind, without as much sugar and fat as milk chocolate, will do wonders. Dark chocolate and cocoa (75% cocoa content) might help lower blood pressure, cut the risk of stroke and bring other cardiovascular benefits according to more than one study. Dark chocolate has flavonoids that are believed to improve the flexibility of blood vessels, making them more resistant to plaque buildup.

Another study published last year found that eating 1.4 ounces of dark chocolate a day for 14 days reduced the stress hormones in highly anxious people.

VICE #5: Girls/Boys nights out.

Finally, research to back up a vice we all enjoy. A number of recent studies have shown how big an impact friends and family have on our behavior. From what we eat and drink, to how much we weigh (for better or worse). Strong social ties have also been found to bring benefits like fewer colds, better brain health and a longer life. Friendships are so good for you, as long as you’re in a well-balanced relationship with give and take being equal. Avoid those who are toxic to you.

VICE #6: Full fat dressing/sauces.

When it comes to vices, full fat anything is sure to be on the list. The thing is, there’s really no need for you to deprive yourself of the full fat variety of your favorite dressing or sauce. These “loaded” versions not only taste better, but they remind us that fats serve a real health purpose, as long as you get the right kinds in the right amount. Try for 10% (no more than 30%) of your daily fat intake to come from monounsaturated fats (vegetable oils, avocados, many nuts and seeds) that cut your risk of heart disease and stroke.

Omega-3 fatty acids (salmon and tuna, flaxseed and walnuts) also reduce the risk of heart disease and might even help ease symptoms of depression, rheumatoid arthritis and other problems. A meal that has a little fat leaves you feeling more satisfied, so you end up actually eating less.

VICE #7: Your morning coffee.

One of the most well known of the vices, coffee continues to be popular. If you’re like many who need that cup of coffee to get going in the morning, don’t feel guilty. There’s a lot of research that suggests coffee doesn’t just pick you up, it also fights heart disease and some cancers. It might also help you perform harder, longer workouts. Moderate coffee drinking in midlife has been linked to lower risks of dementia and Alzheimer’s. What’s more, every added cup of coffee you drink a day drops your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 7%.

VICE #8: Getting a massage.

They may be an expensive indulgence, but massages (by a pro or a loved one) are a vice that is well worth the guilt. Being touched regularly leaves you healthier. Women in a 2008 study noted less pain, depression, anxiety and anger when they got weekly massages by their partners. Their partners reported better mental health too.

VICE #9: Basking in the sun.

Though we all know the dangers of too much sun, this vice, in moderation, has its good side. Those sun filled days act as a natural anti-depressant, really working to improve moods. It triggers our bodies to cut production of the sleep stimulating hormone melatonin so we feel alert, energized and ready to take on the day. Letting the skin soak up the sun (without sunscreen) also triggers the natural synthesis of vitamin D, believed to reduce risks for cancer, heart disease, brittle bones and other conditions.

VICE #10: Wine with dinner.

Last but not least, the ‘good’ vice that most hinges on moderation. Though researchers don’t know precisely why it works, wine does have some impressive heart healthy properties. The antioxidants may keep blood vessels flexible, or alcohol could help boost HDL (the good) cholesterol. All you need is one 5 ounce glass a day to enjoy the benefit, more than this can up your blood pressure and cause you to pack on pounds. Women who drink heavily also boost their risk of breast cancer.

Colonoscopy Procedure – Precautions to Take After and Before Procedure

Colonoscopy is the process of examining the rectum and interior part of the colon (lower part of large intestine) for the sake of estimating the rectal bleeding, bowel disorders and tumors which are spotted on x-ray sheets. It is also used to check for the rectal and colon cancer in the people above 50 years of age.

In the colonoscopy procedure, a colonoscope is used by the physician to view the inner layer of colon. A colonoscope is a long and flexible instrument of ½ inches of diameter which is introduced in the body through rectum and then it advances to the large intestine.

A little quantity of tissues is removed from the body if it is required for the biopsy and polyps are removed after they are identified. A number of times colonoscopy procedure allows correct analysis and cure and there is no need of any major operation or surgery.

Before the Colonoscopy Procedure

Make the physician aware of the conditions if you are a lung or heart patient, or are allergic from certain kind of medications or if you are pregnant. Also tell him if you are on antibiotics before any surgical procedure or if you are having an artificially attached heart valve.

Take care of the following things if you are going through any kind of medication:

* A diabetic patient should regulate the insulin dose on the test day with the help of his physician. Remember to bring your medicines with you so that you can continue with it after the procedure.

* Get some alternate for blood-thinning prescribed from your physician if you are going through the medication of thinning the blood.

* Make sure that you have not taken aspirin within a week or other anti-inflammatory medicine before the procedure.

* The bulk-forming or iron containing products can make it difficult to view the colon. So, don’t take any of such things for a week before the procedure.

* On the days tests are conducted, take the medicines for thyroid or heart diseases and blood pressure with water only.

During the Colonoscopy Procedure

The patient needs to wear the gown provided by the hospital and a tranquilizer and pain-relief pill is given to him. Then the patient is asked to lie on his left with knees drawn upwards. After that a colonoscope is introduced in the body, from rectum to large intestine. This procedure takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour. But there is nothing to be afraid of and the whole process is quite improvised with professional assistance.

After the Colonoscopy Procedure

The patient is kept under observation for about 30 minutes after the colonoscopy procedure. The impression of pain or gas might be felt but not for a long time. The patient is advised to continue with the normal meals and avoid the medication for blood-thinning for at least two weeks after the procedure. It is also advised to stop the use of aspirin to reduce the danger of bleeding in case polyps are removed from the body. There may be rectal bleeding if biopsy is done. But there is no need to worry as it is quite normal.

I’m sure at some point in time over the last few years you have heard of antioxidants. Whether on television or through media, it is evident that they play a big role in keeping our bodies younger and healthier. Most people (myself included) agree that they are an amazing resource at helping our bodies and can give numerous benefits. It is important though, to also take a look at some of the overlooked negative aspects.

Pros of Antioxidants:

  • Can help boost immune system
  • Protect us from numerous diseases by eliminating free radicals in our body
  • Are easy to obtain through certain foods such as fruits or vegetables
  • Can be obtained through supplements if not eating enough fruits or vegetables
  • Can possibly protect us from mental diseases and reduce symptoms related to aging

Cons of Antioxidants:

  • Too many can actually damage your body and lower your immune system
  • It can be difficult to get all the required amounts because not all fruits and vegetables are created equal (Ex. Some may contain Vitamin C while others contain Vitamin E)
  • Taking supplements to make up for foods can be dangerous depending on the dosage because it can interfere with our body’s natural state
  • Free radicals are only eliminated on a one to one basis (For every serving of fruit or vegetable consumed, only a small amount of free radicals are eliminated)
  • Ingesting too much Vitamin A could cause DNA damage
  • Too much Vitamin E can form pro-oxidants and increase cellular damage

Based on the pros and cons shown above, it is evident that antioxidants are an important and useful tool in anti-aging when used properly. The problem is that many people don’t know exactly how many to consume as well as where to get them from. It can be hard to figure out whether or not you are taking too much of one food, causing it to hurt instead of help you. I myself struggled with trying to find the right foods to eat as well as the right proportions. Eventually, I gave up because it was too hard and I didn’t have the time to plan out what vitamins I was or wasn’t getting. Fortunately, fighting free radicals through supplements and food is not the only way! Many people are oblivious to just how easy it can be to fight free radicals naturally and reverse the effects of aging on the body. Perhaps the greatest discovery is that this all natural way, has no negative side effects that can be brought on by consuming too many antioxidants.
